1990 debut single from Yo Yo who’s was the protege of another South Central LA rapper named Ice Cube. Yo Yo dropped her first album in 1991 titled “Make Way for the Motherlode.” Yo-Yo went on to release four studio albums and had her hands in acting. Her lyrics were written by Ice Cube and also Del The Funky Homosapien during the earlier portions of her career. She’s also appeared in films such as “Boyz n The Hood” & “Menace II Society.”

Rolling Stone cover contest finalist Fictionist will play Provo on Friday
It was a good week for Provo’s Fictionist. The band, which returns home to play a show on March 18 at Sammy’s in Provo, recently found out it is advancing to Round 2 of Rolling Stone magazine’s “Do You Wanna Be A Rock & Roll Star?” competition along with seven other unsigned bands.

Mayfield was also a prolific songwriter writing nearly all of his tunes as well as penning “Hit The Road Jack” for Ray Charles.
