V Rusku ve středu (7. září 2011) odpoledne havarovalo letadlo, na jehož palubě cestoval hokejový tým Lokomotiv Jaroslavl. Na palubě bylo 45 lidí, přežili pouze dva pasažéři. Podle informací agentů hráčů zemřeli i všichni tři čeští hokejisté, kteří v Jaroslavli působili — obránce Karel Rachůnek a útočníci Jan Marek a Josef Vašíček. Zahynul také slovenský útočník Pavol Demitra.
