Bob Dylan’s historical track from 1978’s “Street legal”. I do not own the right of the song or the cover! All rights belong to Mr Dylan,Sony Music Entertainment and Columbia Records!

I listened to this song about 200 times before I realized that the narrator is DEAD and journeying between worlds with a guide. He stripped, kneeled, and was shot, and now he is wandering on the big walk.

Seems like he’s asking the Dos Equis bearded guy

This song may be the greatest, and darkest, non-sense song ever written.

    My favorite line is:

“Well, the last thing I remember before I stripped and kneeled
Was a trainload of fools bogged down in a magnetic field”

The lyrics are so vague that it could mean anything, But don’t get me wrong it has wonderful imagery, but it’s the music and delivery that make it great.

You should hear Tim O’Brien’s version.

Socrates and Bob Dylan, share a remarkable quality. Each ask the questions inspiring a search for answers, which they never claim to have, but always emerge the wiser for at least admitting they did not know. Dylan, finally knew the answer and courageously testified his belief. Predicted, anticipated or otherwise, His Truth, was automatically rejected by many (captured victims), clinging to the lies of a carefully scripted Satanic Lullaby, i.e. the conscious choice to remain ignorant.

Couldn’t agree more. And I heard the Peter Rowan version once (sort of blue-grassy) and it blew my mind too. Cheers. PZ

I never understood WHY??? This is my favorite BD record (along with “Blonde on Blonde”)! First time I listened to it I got the chills!
    Screw Music Critics!

  20. peterzang Says:

This is arguably his most underrated album. The writing is just as good as any of his best. The music is suiting. People don’t like the horns and backing singers, but he was trying out something new like always. I think it’s aged better than other albums of the time.

  23. Golden3000997 Says:

My favorite Dylan album. I especially love this song!

  24. mnbqa Says:

you and me both! Dylan’s poetry was never better than on this album if he had waited a few years before putting this one out it would have been more appreciated as one of his best, dylan was pumping out way to much great material around this time i think people had a dylan overload and not much time to digest it as to not see this as one of his best

  25. TigreBerkeley Says:

Señor..Our Lord..That’s how we address Him in Spanish. Could this song, be a prayer??
